Travel Guide

I tried something today that worked out pretty well for my 6th grade social studies class. They are studying latin america and I had them each pick out a country and research it in order to convince me why I should visit. The students really got caught up in the geography, weather, interesting places, as well as festivals and celebrations.....I thought I would get standard research answers but a lot of students printed out pictures of cool places and maps from the airport....I think each student really learned something in depth...let me know what you think!

  1. have them use ms pub or word to make travel brochures to convince you. integrates technology.

  2. I feel that it was a good way for students to learn more independently about certain history and cultures from different countries. I was wondering do you think that you could bridge this idea into other curriculums?

  3. just wondering, did you have them share their findings with the whole class? it would be fun to have them present them as if they were trying to "sell" everyone a vacation package! heck if you wanted to you could probably even make it into a mini econ lesson!

  4. That sounds like a really fun assignment. Sometimes assignments can seem contrived and students pick up on that easily and don't want to do them. I wonder what it is about this idea that got them involved?

  5. The use of travelling is to regulate imagination by reality, and instead of thinking how things may be, to see them as they are. Flights to Bangkok
